At Hotel Indigo Durham, we’re passionate about supporting our local community and giving back to the people of Durham. When we first opened our Neighbourhood Coffee House, we aimed to offer a great cup of coffee and support to local charities. Since then, we have worked with some amazing charity organisations and local groups, providing a hub for those doing great work in the community.
Buddy Cups
Since its launch in 2019, Buddy Cups has provided a safe space to those who have been directly or indirectly impacted by breast cancer, whether this is coming to terms with their diagnosis or offering support to those who have a loved one impacted. This coffee club meet in our café to host workshops, craft events and various activities, helping build lasting friendships and connections.
Man Up Durham
Helping to support men’s mental health, Man Up Durham is a fantastic local walking group that brings men together through health and wellness, building true friendships along the way. From little to no cost, this group provides an open space for men to share their struggles and stories, giving them a group of people to lean on through their mental health journey. Since their launch at the start of 2024, Man Up Durham has used the Neighbourhood Coffee House as a starting point for their walks. In May 2024 we hosted a raffle that raised £1,030 to help provide the group with uniforms and fund future trips and activities. Man Up Durham is currently working towards becoming a fully registered charity to secure funding and grants.
If U Care Share
We have proudly supported If U Care Share for many years, with suicide prevention at its core, this life-saving charity works with those struggling through suicidal thoughts and offers support to those who have lost a loved one through suicide. If U Care Share regularly hosts meetings and events at our café, using our outdoor bar to set up a table during the annual Miners’ Gala Day. A charity close to our heart, each year we host ‘Wear Green and Inside Out Day’ helping to raise funds and spread awareness for their cause.
Macmillan
Since 2022, we have hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning each year to help raise funds to support those affected by cancer, offering a range of games, challenges and activities for the community. In September 2024, through our Macmillan Coffee Morning, we raised £489. Our work for Macmillan doesn’t stop there, alongside Macmillan volunteers and other local businesses we have co-hosted several events to offer further support.
